Mission and Outreach at
First United Methodist Church in North Andover

The Mission Work Area coordinates collection activities, both goods and monies, to support organizations that serve those in need.  The Work Area also coordinates outreach activities in the North Andover and surrounding communities.  Members are Karen Bacchi, Ave Blatchford, Paul Carlotto, JoAnn Carlotto, Susan Lewis, and Melissa Scheirey.  All members of the congregation are welcome to become involved in outreach and mission work at any level, through giving, by assisting with a single project or by making a long term commitment.  Please feel free to speak to a member of the Mission Work Area before or after service on Sundays or contact the church office for more information.

Current Mission and Outreach Activity February 2012 During the month of February, we will be asking for monetary donations for Bread & Roses Soup Kitchen in Lawrence.  Save The Date Please mark your calendars for the next Bread & Roses dinner on Saturday, March 31.  Volunteers to make the dinner at Bread & Roses from 2 pm-4 pm, as well as donated food items for the meal, will be needed.

 

Organizations Supported by First United Methodist Church

BREAD & ROSES:

The mission of Bread & Roses Soup Kitchen in Lawrence is to “ease the hungers in our community, providing guests with a hot, nutritious evening meal and distributing food, clothing and basic life necessities to those most in need.” 

First United Methodist Church of North Andover prepares the meal for Bread & Roses whenever there is a fifth Saturday in a month.  We ask for donations of food, or money to purchase the ingredients, for the meal.  We also ask for several volunteers to help prepare the meal at Bread & Roses.  Please see the Mission and Outreach Schedule for the next opportunity to help those in need in our community.

 Several members of our congregation volunteer on a more regular basis at Bread & Roses.

NEIGHBORS IN NEED:

Neighbors in Need (NIN) is a local food assistance program which runs a number of food pantries in the area. Members of First Untied Methodist Church of North Andover help to support NIN through donations of food and money to the program.  Food donations are collected throughout the year, in addition to more focused collection activities during Thanksgiving and Easter.

M.A.P.A.

M.A.P.A. (Mision A Paraiso Ahora) is a mission group which works in mutual ministry with Iglesia Evangelica Dominicana in Paraiso, Dominican Republic.  Be sure to check the M.A.P.A. link for more information and to find out how you can help. UMCOR:

The United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR) is a not for profit organization of the United Methodist Church that works to alleviate people’s sufferings in times of war, conflict, or natural disaster. 

The First United Methodist Church of North Andover Missions Team periodically coordinates a collection of relief supply kits for donation to UMCOR to assist this humanitarian aid organization in it efforts around the world.

UNITED METHODIST ECONOMIC MINISTRY:

The United Methodist Economic Ministry is based in the Western Maine Region in Salem, ME.  Their mission is “to clothe the naked, feed the hungry, and house the poor.”

First United Methodist Church of North Andover collects backpacks and school supplies for the United Methodist Economic Ministry to distribute to families in need in the Salem and Kingfield, Maine communities.  Please see the Mission and Outreach Schedule for the next scheduled collection.
